This morning I was trying to google a quote ‘the past is another country’ but only found the one that begins ‘ the past is a foreign country..’ I will stick with another.
To me it is another country, which informs everything I do from the mundane to the joyous and every thought I have and choice I make. Having records of my time as a ward of the state, a participant in the Child Abuse Royal Commission and National Redress Scheme plus the statement I made to NSW Police gives me archive access to parts of my life. It’s a collection of biographical detail that I had not visited often, but have now done so fully for the documentary, and found that the associated memories have broken through the self protective layers I built for myself, to reveal more of me to me. It’s a challenge.
